Raw Tag Team Championship Match
Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose
Result: Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre defeated Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose via pinfall
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Four men who have all been Intercontinental Champion; four men who have all been Tag Team Champions; three former world champions, two former NXT Champions, and two former United States Champions. This may be the most star studded match on the WWE Hell in a Cell 2018 card.
Again, the task at hand facing these superstars — following what immediately preceded it — was a monumental one. But much like Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair, these four mostly did a commendable job holding the crowd’s interest. Sure, the crowd was quiet for long stretches — they had to be shot after the first two matches. This would have been a perfect time to throw in a Bobby Lashley match, or an Elias segment, just to break things up. By the end, though, you’d never know the crowd should have been dead.
It’s really amazing to me how well Ziggler and McIntyre work as a team. It seemed like such a strange pairing back in April when they first hit the scene on Raw, but here we are and it seems silly that anyone even questioned it. Their chemistry is off the charts in these tag matches.
But all that pales in comparison to the Dean Ambrose hot tag. For about twelve seconds, the crowd was loud as could be before fatigue again set in. Part of me wonders if this match was placed here because the producers felt the sheer talent was enough to overcome audience fatigue.
The final third of this match, give or take a bit, pushed it into a level we hadn’t yet seen on the night. Considering the show opened with one of the best Hell in a Cell matches in recent memory, and followed it up with a tremendous women’s championship match, that’s damn impressive. The Claymore Kick in the middle of Rollins’s superplex/Falcon Arrow combo was sublime. Legit a spot of the year, and one of the best tag team matches I’ve ever seen.
