WWE SmackDown Live: Results, Highlights, and Grades from September 18
Asuka vs. Billie Kay
Billie and Peyton Royce are already in the ring when we arrive from commercial, and their segment is honestly too short. These two girls are funny and really don’t care if they look awkward doing it.
Billie gets an early lead, and Tom Phillps reminds everyone that Asuka lost her streak at Wrestlemania. Thanks, Tom. Asuka lands a hip that Billie counters with a bigger kick. Asuka climbs Billie to lock in the Asuka Lock. Boom, match over.
Grade: C-
The IIconics are entertaining, pure and simple. Asuka is that good, plain and simple. Let them entertain already, huh? What do you say?
Becky Lynch’s Championship Coronation
Paige is in the ring to welcome OUR SmackDown Women’s Champion, Becky Lynch. It’s a little weird they didn’t have Becky Lynch actually walk out with the title, and the all-black outfit and deadly swagger proves we haven’t seen the last of the take-no-prisoner’s version of Lynch.
Becky demands Charlotte come out to the ring. She doesn’t want the pomp and circumstance; she just wants Charlotte. Charlotte is here to deliver. She’s in all black too. We’re at a freaking funeral of friendship here.
Charlotte says she didn’t come to fight, but rather she’s here to pay her respects. She says congratulations, but says Becky gave up way more than just their friendship. This rematch is set for Super Show-Down.
Becky says Charlotte may “touch the champ” tonight and raise her hand, or… put the title around Becky’s waist. With one little old b-word, Charlotte and Becky come to blows outside the ring. Becky throws Charlotte around like a Barbie doll and finally gets her back in the ring for a Dis-Arm-Her. With a final suplex, Becky leaves Charlotte laying in the ring.
Grade: A
It was short, but wow, did it bring the heat. WWE is still hammering home the fact that Becky’s “heel” now, and it’s still not going over, but boy is it fun to watch them try. Becky looks stronger than ever.
Thank you for tuning in with us tonight, and make sure to tune in with us ever Monday and Tuesday for live Raw and Smackdown results and analysis. Live from Su-Bex City, we’re out.
