Brothers of Destruction vs. DX Best Use of Shawn Michaels

On this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw The Undertaker appeared to respond to Shawn Michaels and Triple H’s words. During the promo, Undertaker revealed he will not be coming to Super Show-Down alone. His brother Kane will be in his corner, while HBK will be in The Game’s corner.

Triple H and Shawn Michaels have been linked together their whole careers. And rightfully so, because the two have so much history in storyline and in real life. They have been great opponents and even greater best friends.

When HBK got involved in a heated promo with Undertaker, fans began begging for one more Michaels match. Rumors are now swirling that Michaels will wrestle again in some fashion. Perhaps this was WWE’s plan all along.

Alternatively, maybe this was just two veterans that are elite at manipulating the audience. You can tell that WWE intended for Shawn Michaels to simply spark some interest for the feud. Right now, the company is making Triple H vs Undertaker a priority. The main reason for that is because it is a ‘last time ever’. Those two legends are closer to the end then the beginning.

But HBK and Undertaker fully understand the psychology of the business. They were so good in their promo that, while promoting one match, they made it so Michaels competing in a different match is a real option for the first time in years.

Many will want The Show Stopper to deliver classic one on one matches. However, at 53 years old that is expecting too much of the former world champion. The wise way to use Shawn Michaels (if at all) is to protect him in a tag match.

Another match with Undertaker would be redundant, especially since there is no more streak. Brothers Of Destruction vs DX is the much wiser match. It should take place at WWE Crown Jewel, as a recent Dave Meltzer report indicates is the plan (subscription required).

Additionally, this is a great novelty match that will draw some old Attitude Era fans. All four superstars are household names. It would be fresh, because even back in the day this feud has not been tapped into deeply. Two of the most dangerous duos would be colliding. That is a lot safer of a choice than throwing Shawn Michaels in a singles match. Triple H is still a capable ring general and still in ring shape. He can make it easier for Shawn by taking the bulk of the bigger bumps.

In the end this match consists of all part timers. So it likely wouldn’t progress any main storyline. At the same time, there is plenty reason to do it. The diehard HBK fans will get their fix. The casual fans will get a reason to tune in. While the hardcore fans get some nostalgia. Whether they admit it or not, they LOVE nostalgia. DX vs Brothers of Destruction is the real end of an era.
