Pete Dunne Vs Ricochet- Champion Vs Champion
Result: No decision
Grade: A+
Seriously, this match was awesome. Pete Dunne and Ricochet have been two of the most consistent performers on NXT throughout 2018, and the two men put on a wrestling masterclass to close out this week’s NXT.
Their exchanges were slick, innovative, and perfectly paced, and the crowd ate up every minute of the action.
The decision to put both titles on the line in this match turned out to be a stroke of genius, with the tension ramped up to 11 from the opening bell right through to the last. The near-falls kept the crowd on the edge of their seats, and the duelling chants helped to maintain an electric atmosphere in the arena.
This match eclipsed anything the main-roster was able to produce at Hell in a Cell, and given that this was the main event on a weekly show, that’s saying something.
The fact that the match went to a no-decision when The Undisputed Era ran down would have damaged it had it been at a PPV, but we have to keep in mind that this match existed mostly to further current storylines.
If you are going to check out any match from this week’s WWE programming, and that’s including Hell in a Cell, make sure it’s this one. This was a serious match of the year candidate.
