For WWE fans, the jury may be out as to whether Matt Hardy has truly retired – is it the truth, or an elaborate work? However, if the man himself is to be believed, it’ll be a very long time until we see him return to in-ring action – if, indeed, he ever does return.

With a career spanning over two decades and multiple promotions, Matt Hardy’s Broken Brilliance has seen many forms, from the young, vibrant upstart forming one half (or indeed, one third) of Team Xtreme to the weird and wonderful fever dream that was The Expedition of Gold. A master of character, Matt Hardy has reinvented himself time and time again, and his long and varied career has seen a great many high points. Championship gold, sibling rivalry, controversy, the seven deities – he’s seen it all.

With so many years (and so many incarnations) under his belt, it’s difficult to whittle Matt Hardy’s best moments down to just five, but if this really is the end – and given the poor state of Matt’s  health lately, it’s difficult to wish against his retirement – then it is surely long past time to celebrate the high points. Let’s hop into our dilapidated boats and take a journey through some of the finer points of Matt Hardy’s twenty-year career.
