Daily She-DT: Jinny’s Upcoming SHIMMER Debut, Chelsea Green’s Canadian Destroyer
Today’s dive into women’s wrestling news takes a look at Jinny’s upcoming SHIMMER debut, Becky Lynch’s Twitter trolling, and a blessing Chelsea Green received from Petey Williams.
Let’s start with SHIMMER wrestling, which recently announced a new streaming platform that can be accessed at StreamSHIMMER.com. All of their older shows are available on this new service, and they will be uploading upcoming shows, too.
In four weeks, SHIMMER will tape 105-108 in Berwyn, Illinois over the weekend of Oct. 20th and 21st. What’s exciting about that weekend, beyond the fact that it’s a chance to watch more great wrestling, is that Jinny will be making her SHIMMER debut.
For those of you unfamiliar with Jinny’s work, the “Fashonista” is one of wrestling’s best villains today. She’s been a staple in the United Kingdom scene, specifically shining in PROGRESS. Jinny lost to Toni Storm in the first round of the Mae Young Classic 2, but she more than made her presence felt in WWE.
Jinny’s character work is worth praising heavily, and in a setting like SHIMMER where expressiveness is encouraged to an even greater degree, her character will only shine more brightly. This is an exciting development to watch next month, and October looks like a jam-packed month for women’s wrestling.
LuFisto In Germany
wXw Germany is one of the most acclaimed wrestling promotions in the world, and they’ve put on some overlooked women’s matches over the past year. LuFisto will be touring in Germany soon, and she has three wXw matches that look out-of-this-world good.
Kris Wolf, Toni Storm, and Wesna are three upcoming opponents for LuFisto, whose bout with Storm will occur on Oct. 6 at wXw Germany’s Femme Fatales show. That first-round matchup could be similar to Storm’s match against Wesna last year at Femme Fatales, though LuFisto vs. Storm could reach another level.
Wesna vs. LuFisto will take place the next day at World Tag Team League.
NOVA Pro Wrestling’s Sadie Hawkins Invitational
On Oct. 19 in Annandale, Virginia, NOVA Pro Wrestling will have its Sadie Hawkins Invitational. Jordynne Grace, Penelope Ford, Allie Kat, Barbi Hayden, Veda Scott, Aja Perrera, Terra Calaway, and Faye Jackson are the eight women who will get to choose their tag team partners for this event.
Based on the names confirmed for the show, this sounds like a show worth checking out in your area, and it’s worth noting that NOVA Pro Wrestling is one of the best and most progressive feds in the country.
Apparently one team has already been confirmed for the show, but NOVA wants to leave us guessing (it’s kind of more fun that way).
Note that Grace recently suffered an injury but has said that she’s aiming to return to the ring in October for what will be a huge month for her. The Sadie Hawkins Invitational figures to be one part of this important month, so we’re wishing her the best in her recovery.
Chelsea Green Has Petey Williams’s Blessing
If you haven’t seen Chelsea Green hit Pentagon Jr. with a “Canadian Destroyer” in Lucha Underground, please go ahead and do so. It’s literally the most bad-ass moment in wrestling this year, and that’s saying something, since Pentagon alone has done some remarkable stuff this year. Green crashing the party at LU absolutely stole the show, and that was a sick Canadian Destroyer on a wrestling legend.
Petey Williams is the man who invented the devastating, aesthetically pleasing finishing maneuver, and he gave Green his blessing to continue using the move. Furthermore, she’s the only person with his blessing.
You can listen to Green’s appearance on Dennis Farrell’s and Petey Williams’s “Wrestling Perspectives” podcast here. Farrell and Williams always do a great job with their interviews, and Green is an awesome guest to have.
By the way, I feel like we need to talk more about just how good Green has been in 2018. Everywhere she goes, she makes noise, and she only needs mere minutes to steal the show with her character work. The Four-Way match at All In is the quintessential example of how Green can manage to ever-so-slightly upstage three amazing competitors, just by bringing something to the table. As her Canadian Destroyer shows, she keeps kicking slicker in the ring by the month.
STARDOM’s 5-Star Grand Prix
STARDOM’s yearly tournament finished today, and a new 5-star Grand Prix winner has been crowned after a grueling tournament that began in mid-August. Yeah, it’s an intense tournament, and it featured some of the biggest names in wrestling like Mayu Iwatani, Kagetsu, Rachael Ellering, Nicole Savoy, Kelly Klein, and Kimber Lee. Oh, and Utami Hayashishita has proven to be quite the rising star as a rookie
I’m not going to spoil the ending, but I’ll just say there was indeed a twist before the finals.
Women’s Wrestling Revolution vs. The World
Oh look, Jordynne Grace will be involved in another big show in October!
Women’s Wrestling Revolution vs. The World is the event taking place on Oct. 28 in New York City at the same time as WWE’s Evolution. So yeah, this is a “statement” show, and what better way to make a statement than having Tenille Dashwood as the headliner.
There are so many great wrestlers announced for this show like Kimber Lee and Shazza McKenzie, who have worked with WWE at points in their career.
As noted in the tweet above, tickets go on sale next Friday at noon.
Becky Lynch Trolls Charlotte Flair Some More
There are plenty of great storylines in WWE right now, but they can’t hold a candle to what Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair are doing. While the social media work isn’t quite as subtle as Sasha Banks’s ingenious like-trolling and shade-throwing, Becky’s directness and pointed replies to Charlotte are equally entertaining.
At this point, Becky doesn’t care what she does, as long as she does it her way and holds that SmackDown Women’s Championship with pride. Judging by her last segment on SmackDown Live, she has no respect for Charlotte anymore, regardless of Flair’s attempts to bring some modicum of sportsmanship to the table.
I mean, just look at this. She’s out here telling Charlotte that her woos are really boos or that her fun with the Mixed Match Challenge is just a sweet little distraction from what Becky will do to her.
Outside of Becky’s character, she will return to Lilian Garcia’s excellent “Chasing Glory” podcast today. “Chasing Glory” always does an exceptional job of teaching us lessons and giving us an unfiltered glimpse at how inspiring many WWE Superstars are. Becky’s last interview with Garcia was tremendous, and this one could be even better, especially after what’s taken place in Becky’s career recently.
Impact Wrestling Tag Match
Allie is on a mission to stop all the evil permeating the Knockouts Division, because the heels really do love to run amok on Impact Wrestling. She isn’t alone, though, because Kiera Hogan has shown a willingness to be by Allie’s side and help her stop Su Yung and her Undead Bridesmaids.
Next week, Hogan and Allie will take on Yung and her Undead Maid of Honor (stylized UDMOH) in tag team action on Impact TV.
It’s always great to see Hogan in a match, and this tag team with Allie is entertaining to watch. That said, I wonder what will happen next in this story as we head into Bound For Glory, because I’m always nervous when the sinister Su Yung is involved…
Quick Hits
- Kimber Lee will take on Sonya Strong on Oct. 5 at House of Glory’s “Extreme Warfare” show, where Strong will defend the House of Glory Women’s Championship against Lee. Also, one more nugget on Lee – she had some SICK counters in her match against Tam Nakano in STARDOM’s 5-Star Grand Prix. She has strong tournament performance , including her final match of the Red Stars bracket against Ellering.
- Kay Lee Ray and Kez Evans had a match at an ICW show last night, and if you are OK with possible spoilers, here’s a link to a GIF of the finish. Kez’s “Killer Instinct” comment refers to this.
- Oct. 28 sounds like a huge date for wrestling fans, because there’s yet another show set. In Gainesville, Florida, FEST Wrestling will have its “biggest show of the year”, We Are Family 2. Some women’s wrestlers confirmed for the show are Shotzi Blackheart, Aria Blake, Aerial Monroe, Holidead, and Leva Bates.
Southside’s Queen of the Ring In November
On Nov. 9, Southside Wrestling will present its “Queen of the Ring” show, and I think it’s worth briefly mentioning it despite being well over a month away from the date. Kimber Lee, Xia Brookside, Kasey Owens, Millie McKenzie, Kris Wolf, and Killer Kelly are confirmed names for the show.
That is a star-studded group of wrestlers! Note that there were eight women in the tournament last year, so it will be interesting to see who the final two competitors are.
