WWE SmackDown Live Recap 9/25: Samoa Joe Brings The Feud Home
If you didn’t think the feud between AJ Styles and Samoa Joe could get anymore personal, tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live was very, very happy to prove you wrong.
Truth TV/R Truth vs The Miz
R-Truth and Carmella star on the debut episode of Truth TV, and their first guest is Daniel Bryan. Carmella is sporting a fabulous new brunette hair color, but is unfortunately underutilized during this segment, though Truth does shine.
Miz interrupts, and R-Truth challenges Miz to a match to kick-off the show. Miz thinks Truth is losing it, until SmackDown general manager Paige books the match, with Daniel Bryan at ringside. Miz wins, but not before knocking off some of Daniel Bryan’s moves and his “yes” chant. Bryan attacks Miz after the match, but there’s no real growth for this feud tonight leading up to their match at Super Show-Down.
Backstage Becky
We see Becky Lynch completely mow down Charlotte backstage during a photoshoot, and she suggests that the photographer take her picture, because she is the champ and all. I’m hoping this results in “take my pic-ture” chants.
Big E vs Sheamus
New Day poses a new social media challenge to us all with the #SaySomethingNiceChallenge, and yeah, Cesaro does kind of look like a Swiss Jason Statham. After a pound-for-pound, blow-for-blow match, including a huge splash from Big E to Sheamus on the apron, Sheamus comes out victorious. That’s twice in two weeks a member of The Bar has beaten a member of the New Day leading into their Super Show-Down match.
Rusev Wants Answers from Aiden
It was the most somber Rusev Day ever observed, and Rusev and Lana are here to get answers from Aiden English. Aiden is ready to provide, and he brings two video packages with him; one proving that Aiden has been by Rusev’s side through everything, the other showing Lana has done nothing but get in the way.
Aiden then brings up that Lana has always been good to her husband, honest even. Honest, that is, save for one night in Milwaukee. Rusev is confused, and Lana is immediately offended, and promises Rusev she has no clue what English is going on about.
Asuka and Naomi vs. Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose
The IIconics are on commentary tonight in a match between the team of Asuka and Naomi, and Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose. The pre-match promo includes some funny bits of Asuka playing with Naomi’s hair, and then sharply reprimanding Rose and Deville for touching it afterwards. The match itself is quick, with Asuka and Naomi victorious. The IIconics look on disapprovingly leading into their Super Show-Down match with the victors.
Tye Dillinger vs Shinsuke Nakamure for the United States Championship
Tye Dillinger had a match against Shinsuke Nakamua for the United States Championship… or not. Not long into the match at all, Randy Orton came, ahem, out of nowhere to lay Dillinger out in the middle of the ring. Not to be outdone, before leaving ringside, Shinsuke offered a big Kinshasa to Dillinger, sending his head flying into the LED board.
Becky Lynch vs. Lana
Becky Lynch challenged Lana to a match, stating that Lana’s performance hasn’t been up to par. Lana holds her own for a while, but Becky makes quick work of her, and Lana taps to the Dis-Arm-her. Backstage, Aiden English says he’ll be providing receipts for The Milwaukee Incident next week.
Contract Signing of AJ Styles and Samoa Joe
AJ Styles arrives ready for his contract signing for the No DQ, No Count Out match for Super Show-Down, but Samoa Joe is nowhere to be found. No, in fact, Samoa Joe finally appears via satellite, and he’s not there because he is appearing live from outside AJ Styles’ house. AJ begs Samoa Joe to no avail to leave his family alone. Joe ask AJ to remember these feelings of fear and helplessness, as he plans on making AJ feel like that again at Super Show-Down. The show ends as Joe rings AJ’s doorbell and announces, “Daddy’s home.”
