WWE Mixed Match Challenge Season 2 Episode 2 Review and Results
Carmella & R-Truth vs Asuka & The Miz
The crowd’s chanting “Truth TV”, so of course Miz climbs the buckle and starts angrily yelling “Miz TV” at the crowd. The boos rain down, R-Truth starts his chant again, and we’re underway.
Asuka and Carmella start things off, but Miz tags himself in right away to more jeers from the mile high crowd. Miz rushes his opponent multiple times, but Truth answers with arm drags and taunts each time. A big hip toss to Miz, and the Fabulous Truth hit a dance break. I love them. Asuka joins in, much to the displeasure of her partner who interrupts by mocking Carmella’s moonwalk.

Awe-ska find themselves on the outside, so the Fabulous Truth lines up for suicide dives. Miz hides behind Asuka, but Mella and Truth shake it off and moonwalk away. Asuka gets Miz pumped up (scares him) and he starts running off offense. Up for the diving double axe handle, but Truth catches him with a right hand and they’re both down. Tags to Asuka and Mella.
Asuka dominates off the bat with a flurry of strikes and hip attacks. She goes for a diving dropkick, but Mella dodges it and tries the bronco buster. Miz pulls his partner out of the way, and Asuka hits the shining wizard for a great near fall.
Asuka sets up the Asuka Lock, but Carmella gets out and hits a superkick. Miz breaks up the pin attempt, and Mella isn’t happy about it. They face off in the middle of the ring, so Truth takes the chance and catches the A Lister off guard. Miz fights back and sends Truth tumbling over the top rope. Mella goes for a roll up amidst the chaos, but Asuka kicks out. Miz is up on the apron and takes a superkick, but Asuka takes advantage and locks in the Asuka Lock for the finish.
Awe-ska def Fabulous Truth
Although I would’ve loved to see Fabulous Truth ride this wave of popularity to a huge upset win over the season one champs, the match was still enjoyable. Miz was on his A game, heeling it up like only he can. The way he actively responds to the crowd is absolutely fantastic. He’s just the worst, and by that I mean he’s the best.
The duo of R-Truth and Carmella is proving to be a surprise highlight of WWE programming. The chemistry they have is amazing considering the short amount of time they’ve been paired up. Both of them have huge personalities, but they still manage to avoid stepping on each other’s toes. It’s a joy to watch them perform together.
As far as the actual in ring action goes, this was pretty good. Nothing overly memorable or anything, but it was solid from start to finish. Carmella in particular looked extremely crisp in the ring. Her exchanges with Asuka down the stretch were great. Hopefully all the angry twitter trolls were watching. MELLA IS MONEY, YA’LL. Deal. With. It.
Rating: ***1/2
In conclusion, episode two of the second Mixed Match Challenge was a step down from episode one, but still enjoyable overall. I’m really enjoying season two’s pairs. Some of the teams that seemed the most random and mismatched at first are shining the brightest. Also, it seems like all the wrestlers involved are genuinely having a good time… and when the wrestler’s are having fun, chances are the fans are too. With that being said, hopefully we’ll get less push-up contests and more Fabulous Truth dance breaks in the future.
