Rey Mysterio: Five Matches to Welcome Back the ‘King of Mystery’

Andrade Almas
Andrade “Cien” Almas has had an intriguing run during his three years under the WWE banner. Before his time within the WWE, Almas had put on a multitude of exciting matches across multiple promotions in Mexico and even New Japan. This is what kicked off all of the excitement when it was announced that he would join NXT.
Things didn’t get off to such a great start as he seemed like he was headed for a stale place on the roster. That was until Zelina Vega was added; breathing a new life into his character and his career. Since then, he’s put on great matches at the NXT champion and continued that trend against names such as Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles on SmackDown.
There’s no doubt that Almas and Mysterio can put on a clinic in a WWE ring. If given the proper amount of time, their styles would be an instant throwback to the Lucha Libre matches of old that brought the cruiserweights to prominence when they reached the USA via the ECW and WCW promotions.
With Vega added to the mix, she has the ability to tell the story that would help build this into a long term feud that would help both men come out looking grand in the end; regardless who is determined the “winner” when all things are said and done.
Either man could use this type of feud to elevate them to the SmackDown main event picture to challenge for the title. A long term feud, built around their abilities, culture, and legacies within Mexican wrestling comes as a ready-made story that would deliver to those in attendance and viewing around the world.
If the WWE is looking to bring Mysterio back with a perfect matchup that can not only help him, but help build the stock of a fellow performer, then putting him with Andrade Almas would be the right direction to go.
