Ricochet

If anyone has taken WWE programming by storm in 2018, it’s been Ricochet. Anyone that has followed his career on the independent scene is well aware of what he can do in the ring, but his transition to the WWE in-ring style has been impressive to watch.

As a mainstay on the NXT roster, he’s put on some of the best matches of the year with the Velveteen Dream, Adam Cole and most recently, Pete Dunne. Ricochet truly has the ability to do something that Mysterio has done in the past, and that’s become such a fan favorite that he overcomes what some may see as a deficiency due to his size. Ricochet is that good, and having him as a potential opponent for Rey Mysterio would be a treat to all of the fans.

While you may be unaware, Ricochet and Rey Mysterio have met multiple times in the past. They faced off as a part of the Defiant Wrestling brand (then known as WCPW) and as a part of Lucha Underground where Ricochet when by the name of the masked Prince Puma. They also had a match for the Destiny Championship that included PJ Black (once known as Justin Gabriel in the WWE). Each one of these matches are well worth the viewing to get an idea of the treat that pro wrestling fans would be in for is they were put together in the WWE.

The path for the WWE to get to this match would be simple; have Mysterio be a surprise challenger to Ricochet’s NXT North American title. Just like Mickie James challenged Asuka for the NXT title years ago, Mysterio as a surprise opponent would be a big surprise for the black and yellow brand.

This could be an important match on an NXT TakeOver event – a one-time appearance for Mysterio – before moving him back to one of the main roster shows. At the same time, Ricochet would get the rub of a featured, one-on-one match with one of the most recognized names in recent WWE history.
