Rey Mysterio: Five Matches to Welcome Back the ‘King of Mystery’

The headline basically writes itself; the Demon King versus the King of Mystery. Rey Mysterio versus Finn Balor is another captivating match that could be used to welcome him back to the fold. Just as the match with Andrade Almas; this is the type of match that would have a positive impact on both Balor and Mysterio’s placement on the roster, while not damaging the stock of either man.

From the story standpoint, Balor is in need of a character refresh, because his current gimmick has become “stale” in the eyes of many. He’s a great in-ring performer, but as a face, he hasn’t been able to do more than tread water since returning from the shoulder injury that forced him to vacate the WWE Universal Title. Turning him into a heel character would be a shot in the arm that many are hoping for. When paired with the Demon character, that is the opportunity to make Balor into a more menacing character; especially at a time when the Raw brand is facing a dearth of big name heels. Imagine this feud booked around a mid-card title like the Intercontinental belt and there is an opportunity for both men to do something meaningful while staying out of the way of the mess that is developing in the main event picture.

In the ring, Mysterio versus Balor would be a mix of fast-paced and technical action. Balor is typically placed in the position of the smaller man when paired with his peers on the Raw roster. However, he would be able to infuse his move set with power when facing off against Rey. Rey has an innate ability to make bigger wrestlers look great and while Balor would be able to keep up with him in pacing, it would be interesting to see how well they would play off of each other from bell to bell.
