Simon Gotch’s Prize Fight Challenge

Simon Gotch is back with another Prize Fight Challenge! He initially drops the sack of money as he enters the ring and covers by remarking that it’s heavier than usual as the prize has been upped to $2,000.

Gotch claims that he’s raised the stakes because he wants to search from “the heights of Heaven to the depths of Hell” to find competitors. Gotch gets his wish for the latter as Gangrel makes his way to the ring to accept the challenge!

Gotch jumps Gangrel as he enters the ring, but the Vampire Warrior is able to take early control with a scoop slam and his patented spinning elbow drop. Unfortunately, that’s all she wrote for Gangrel’s advantage – Gotch is able to wrap on a rear naked in an attempt to squeeze the air out of his opponent.

Gangrel, though, buries his fangs into the bicep of Gotch and refuses to let up as the referee delivers the five count. With Gangrel not releasing the chomp, the ref calls for the bell and awards Gotch the DQ win.

Grade: Good. The Prize Fight Challenge is fun, and pulling Gangrel out of nowhere was a good surprise.

The match itself was nothing spectacular, but Gotch is almost always fun even in short bursts. Seeing Gangrel out of nowhere filled my teen-goth heart with joy and the finish of being DQ’d for trying to suck Gotch’s blood was a fun way to avoid a Prize Fight loss for Simon.

ACH: Ready To Bite

Before his match with Davey Boy Smith Jr, ACH laments the unprofessionalism of The Hart Foundation for knocking Rich Swann out cold in a match as well as their treatment of Kevin Sullivan. He can’t comprehend why MLW continues to book such a problematic trio, but he promises Davey Boy that he’s ready to bite back in their match tonight.

Grade: Great. Nice intensity and emotion from ACH to put extra weight on the match with DBS.

This promo and ACH’s charisma are enough to make me wish he wasn’t tied to Swann and were, instead, in the hunt for one of MLW’s two singles titles. I think he’s got a lot in him that has yet to be seen in MLW and, if given the chance, could position himself as a top name in the company.

Callihan Blasts Back at Havoc

Backstage, Callihan lays into Jimmy Havoc on the road to their Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal match at Fury Road. With thirteen options on the wheel, Callihan is thirsting for a chance to get his hands on Havoc in any of them – including the dreaded Coal Miner’s Glove match. Callihan promises that the match will be bloody and go down in history as the most violent match in MLW history.

Grade: Good. Callihan knows how to build to a match and shines here.

Callihan the person is problematic for me, but Callihan the wrestler is a promo machine if nothing else. He’s good on his feet here as he plays off of police sirens in the background citing himself as the most dangerous wrestling on the planet. Whatever the wheel lands on at Fury Road should lead to something ridiculous with Callihan and Havoc involved.
