Following Hiromu Takahashi’s career altering injury, professional wrestling’s coolest band of misfits is set to debut a brand new ungovernable on Monday at NJPW King of Pro Wrestling…

In a video posted on October 1st to New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Youtube channel, Los Ingobernables de Japon’s leader, Tetsuya Naito, confirmed the suspicions of many savvy NJPW fans- LIJ is introducing a new “pareja” to its ranks. It’s unclear whether this move is in direct response to Hiromu Takahashi’s injury or if it’s been the plan all along.

The significance of this addition cannot be stressed enough as LIJ is one of the most exclusive, tight-knit groups in all of professional wrestling. Compared to NJPW’s other major factions, which all have at least ten members (not considering recent Chaos & Bullet Club infighting), there are only five Japanese Ungovernables. Additionally, there hasn’t been a new member added in nearly two years.

Something else to consider- when LIJ grows, it usually means big things for the new Ingobernable. BUSHI won the CMLL World Welterweight Championship and the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship within a year of joining, SANADA helped Naito win the IWGP Heavyweight with his NJPW debut then went on to score a huge win of his own over Hiroshi Tanahashi a few months later, and Hiromu won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship by defeating Kushida at Wrestle Kingdom 11 less than a month after joining LIJ’s ranks.

So who is it going to be?… Honestly, nobody really has any idea. Most fans seem to think that the new member will be a junior heavyweight to fight alongside BUSHI in the upcoming Super Jr. Tag League, but that’s unconfirmed. Neville (PAC) seemed to be a likely candidate but, now that he’s joined Dragon Gate’s R.E.D faction, that’s a longshot at best. Other names that have been involved in speculation include Dragon Lee, Pentagon Jr, Shingo Takagi, Hirai Kawato, Bandido, and even Chris Jericho.

Personally, I’m pulling for Dragon Lee. His insane athleticism and deep lucha Libre roots would be an excellent, fresh addition to Los Ingobernables de Japon. Also, I absolutely love the idea that he earned Hiromu’s respect and endorsement by injuring him at NJPW G1 Special in San Francisco. It would be an interesting explanation for his LIJ induction and perfectly fit Hiromu’s bizarre, sadistic character.
