WWE Evolution: Last Woman Standing Perfect For Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair

At WWE Evolution 2018, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch will face off in the first main roster “Last Woman Standing” match, and this is the perfect stipulation to finish what has been a brutal feud between these two former best friends.

Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch started their rivalry at SummerSlam when Becky betrayed her following their Triple Threat match over Carmella’s SmackDown Women’s Championship. It didn’t take long for Lynch’s actions to pay off, because she won the title from Charlotte at Hell in a Cell after yet another excellent match between these two wrestlers.

Each week these two have feuded with each other, they have managed to take things to the next level. It is hard not to be impressed by how how raw this rivalry has felt, with fans getting unequivocally behind Becky as an antihero, despite Charlotte remaining a babyface.

Both women have their reasons for their actions, and it has been thoroughly entertaining watching Becky antagonize Charlotte and frustrate her. She cheated at WWE Super Show-Down to retain the championship, and she managed to walk away from this week’s episode of SmackDown Live as the champ by drawing via double count-out.

As a result of their brutal match, SmackDown Live GM Paige officially announced Becky vs. Charlotte for WWE Evolution 2018 as a “Last Woman Standing” match.

After watching the latest title match between these two, this seems like the perfect stipulation to end this feud. While a Falls-Count-Anywhere match would have been great, we’ve already seen a couple of those in the women’s division on the main roster, including an exceptional bout between Sasha Banks and Charlotte Flair for the Raw Women’s Championship two years ago.

More from Daily DDT

A “Last Woman Standing” match between Charlotte and Becky could end up being a special match for two wrestlers who already have a catalog of great matches in their young careers. In their title match on SmackDown Live, Charlotte speared Becky through the LED board (potentially injuring herself in the process) and missed a moonsault to the outside. These two will go through any lengths to have great matches and make historic moments live up to their billing.

Based on the “Last Woman Standing” match we saw between Nikki Cross and Asuka in NXT, there should be high expectations for Becky vs. Charlotte. Though main roster matches tend to be more tame, there was nothing watered-down about Charlotte spearing Becky through an LED board.

If that moment was meant to set up this “Last Woman Standing” match, then I can only imagine what these two women will do to each other on Oct. 28. With this match as the main event, Evolution, despite the lack of a build around it to this point, already looks intense. Knowing that the Mae Young Classic 2 finals and other title matches will be on the card helps, but Charlotte vs. Becky in a “Last Woman Standing” match is a stellar main event.

It isn’t easy to keep upping the ante every week in a feud that will have lasted for more than two months by the time Evolution takes place, but Charlotte and Becky have found ways to become the biggest story on a loaded SmackDown Live roster. Becky has certainly taken the ball and run with it as the hero of her own story, breaking out from “talented” to “legitimate superstar” in the span of a month.

Her rapid ascension means that it isn’t a foregone conclusion for her to drop the title to Charlotte at Evolution. Though it seems likely for Charlotte win the SmackDown Women’s Championship and eventually begin a collision course for a Ronda Rousey match in the main event of WrestleMania 35, I envision a different route to that big-ticket match. Honestly, it seems like Becky vs. Rousey at Survivor Series could be just as likely, barring a certain Horsewomen vs. Horsewomen feud materializing.

Before then, though, Charlotte and Becky will help make history at Evolution as the Pay Per View headliners. Even if Nikki Bella vs. Ronda Rousey unwisely goes last, Becky vs. Charlotte is the match that most hardcore wrestling fans will look forward to the most and the match that would best-define what the PPV stands for.

It will be a brutal fight to exhaustion between two women who will go through extreme amounts of pain to be called “champion”, and their threshold for pain has become unimaginable now that they each have personal reasons to prove that they are superior to the other.
