MLW Is Growing – Does It Need A Women’s Division Next?
“The Galaxy’s Greatest Alien” is coming off of a wildly impressive showing against John Silver at Beyond Wrestling’s recent “Please Come Back” event. The premise of the show was simple – Beyond regulars pick their own opponents, but the opponents have to be wrestlers who have never competed in Beyond Wrestling before. Stadtlander wound up being the only outsider to win their match that night and received a massive “please come back!” chant from the crowd.
Stadtlander is more than just a wrestler riding the high of one good match. While Stadtlander has been wrestling for just over a year, she comes with the credentials of being the first female graduate of the Create A Pro Academy where Curt Hawkins and Pat Buck serve as trainers. Her work stands out in a field of women’s wrestling and is only growing in charisma, in-ring talent, and the ability to connect with a crowd.
Aside from being a solid hand in the ring, Stadtlander also dives fully into the persona she has created for herself. Some purists would possibly argue that an alien who uses mind control to direct her opponents around the ring is a bit too campy for MLW, but I’d remind those people that Joey Ryan has been a central figure in MLW and boasts a groin with superhuman powers. The way wrestlers like Stadtlander and Ryan break with the norm to make themselves stand out and connect with the audience on a different level sets them apart from their contemporaries.
Being a rookie in the business, Stadtlander would bring the freshness of someone looking to make their first huge mark on a national level. Someone with her amount of experience is exactly the type of wrestler around whom you could build a division as the underdog story of a Stadtlander against more seasoned veterans could rally crowds from Orlando to New York to Chicago to her native Andromeda Galaxy.
(Sidenote: all four of the women in the match above are fantastic and I’d love to see any [or all] of them in this hypothetical MLW futurescape)
