MLW Fusion Results, Highlights, and Grades: Hart vs Swann
Jimmy Yuta vs Hijo de LA Park
Recently on Fusion, Yuta made his presence known by attacking Jason Cade after a match to remind his former partner that their story is far from done. Tonight, he looks to make his mark as a singles competitor against the debuting Hijo de LA Park presented by Salina de La Renta.
Hijo de LA Park is, as the name would suggest, the son of LA Park and shares a similar costume but carries within it a much different frame. Both men put their speed and skill on display early with some chain wrestling and lucha-inspired armdrags and counters before Hijo de LA Park takes the advantage with a quick headbutt.
These two trade the advantage back and forth in a match that didn’t ever feel like it really came together. This is my first time seeing Hijo de LA Park, so I’m not sure if this is par for the course or if this was an issue with the two not working well together. It wasn’t a total train wreck or anything, just a bit sloppier than I would have expected which hurt the overall story and pacing of the match.
Yuta is able to pick up the win with a sitout inverted suplex leaving Hijo de LA Park writhing in the ring while Salina glares on from ringside.
Grade: Okay. Very middle-of-the-road if a bit messy at times.
I was surprised to see Yuta pick up the win here as I figured the debuting luchador would start off with a victory. But, Yuta is heading into an MLW World Middleweight Title match at Fury Road with Jason Cade and champion MJF, so a win here puts him in a good position for the three-way dance.
Stokely Hathaway Will Return
In a quick vignette, we get the announcement that Stokely Hathaway will soon return to MLW. Hathaway was prevalent early on in MLW with ties to Low Ki and MVP in Black Friday Management, but after severing ties with MVP was unceremoniously kidnapped by men in masks.
What will be waiting for Hathaway when he returns to Major League Wrestling? Low Ki has moved on from BFM to align himself with a powerful ally in Salina de La Renta who has led him to the MLW World Heavyweight Championship. Will Hathaway look to reclaim his spot with Low Ki, or will he bring with him a new version of Black Friday Management?
