WWE: Ranking The Different Eras Of D-Generation X

D-Generation X is arguably the greatest faction in WWE history and no group has changed the complexion of the WWE more than what this notorious group has done in the past.
Since 1997, DX has left a huge mark on WWE history with its over-the-top antics that helped shape the group. Not only did DX make itself special, but it was also arguably the main launching pad for what would become the Attitude Era.
There have been several different versions or eras of DX over the years, most of which came from 1997-2006. But which era is the best of the best? Let’s take a look.
5. The PG Era
By the middle of 2009, the WWE was a full-blown PG company that prided itself on family friendly content, the exact opposite of what the roots of DX were based upon. However, that didn’t stop Vince McMahon from reforming the degenerate group in PG form.
Following a WrestleMania 25 loss to The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels was off of WWE TV for about four months. That all changed when Triple H found himself in a feud with Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase, the duo known as Legacy. Rhodes and DiBiase used the numbers game to ground The Game and he knew what had to be done to overcome Legacy.
Triple H sought the reformation of DX alongside HBK to offset Rhodes and DiBiase, and after a few teases along the way, DX was officially reformed on the Raw before SummerSlam 2009 in anticipation of a tag team match pitting Michaels and Triple H against Rhodes and DiBiase. Legacy spoiled DX’s Raw return, but DX got revenge at SummerSlam with a win.
DX vs. Legacy went for three pay-per-view matches, culminating with a DX win inside Hell in a Cell. After a stellar start, however, DX began to fade. The edgy comedy that made the group what it was in the first place was eliminated under the PG banner and instead, fans were treated to segments such as Little People’s Court with Hornswoggle. The group began fading away in early-2010 when Michaels began his quest to face The Undertaker again at WrestleMania 26.
While it did have its great moments, the PG era of DX just didn’t do enough at the end of the day and couldn’t have done enough given the PG classification of the WWE.
