2. The 2006 Era

Triple H and Shawn Michaels were already bonafide main event stars by 2006 and were viewed at as two of the greatest of all-time.  While they had gone their separate ways in the years leading up to 2006, their on-screen friendship would be rekindled in the way fans had hoped for.

HBK was in the midst of a struggle with Vince and Shane McMahon by mid-2006 and coincidentally, The Game found himself in the same position.  What better way to handle the McMahons than team up, right?  That’s exactly what they did and DX was officially reformed with the two original members.

In the months that followed, some of the funniest, most memorable DX moments in history took place.  Michaels and Triple H ran roughshod on the McMahons and just about everybody else that got in their way.  The comedy was arguably at an all-time high as well with hilarious stunt after hilarious stunt.  Comedy aside, the feuds and storytelling involving this version of DX was top notch as well.

DX’s feud with the McMahons would reach its ending at Unforgiven 2006 when The Game and HBK defeated Vince, Shane, and The Big Show inside Hell in a Cell.  They had another brief feud with Rated-RKO following this feud, but in early-2007, Triple H suffered an injury that would sideline him for several months, all but ending this run of DX.

Despite an unfortunate end, the 2006 era of DX is one that was excellent from start to finish and doesn’t get the credit it deserves from the fans.
