WWE Raw Results: Cracks in The Shield?; Ronda Rousey Gets Revenge
By Bryan Heaton
With WWE Raw in Philadelphia, did the theme of Brotherly Love work for The Shield? Or did the once strong brotherhood crumble in the wake of a continued onslaught from Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre?
This week on WWE Raw, it was a very mixed bag. There was a pretty good match to get the action rolling, but it had a garbage finish — gee, where I have I heard that before? There was dissension in the ranks of some popular teams, a couple of returns, some Evolution build, and absolutely no mention of a certain country and government hosting a show that we’re also still building to!
Real quick observation here, but did the Philly crowd seem super quiet to anyone else? I know the show wasn’t particularly great, and it seemed to draaaaaaaag all night (the opening promo seemed like the longest ten minutes of my life), but Philly is usually a jumping city. Such a shame to see such an unenthused crowd.
Here’s the results from this week’s episode of WWE Raw:
- Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre came to the ring to claim they were the greatest three-man team in WWE history, thanks to their victory over The Shield last week on Raw. Dolph and Drew teased a little dissension with both planning on being a part of the World Cup tournament at Crown Jewel before being interrupted by The Shield — sans Dean Ambrose. Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins get a few jabs in, and Rollins challenges McIntyre to have their qualifying match… RIGHT NOW!
- McIntyre and Rollins tore down the house for a good 15 minutes or so until Dolph Ziggler and a SURPRISE Dean Ambrose got involved. Ultimately, Rollins picked up a count out victory after a Stomp outside the ring, rolling in at 9 while McIntyre failed to make it back inside. After the match, Ambrose freaked out at Rollins calling him a lunatic, despite literally everyone in the WWE Universe calling him that for the past six years.
- We recapped the whole reunion of D-Generation X, followed by a really cheesy backstage/boiler room promo from the Brothers of Destruction.
- Nia Jax teamed up with Ember Moon to face Dana Brooke and “holy cow she’s still here” Tamina. This seems to be the preview for the just-announced Battle Royal at Evolution, where the winner will get a future women’s championship match as an apology for having nothing better to do than help the show hit the 50 performer mark. Ember hit the Eclipse on Dana for the victory, and everyone threw each other over the top rope because BATTLE ROYAL GRRRRRRRR.
- Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey came to the ring all smiles, despite being tasked with addressing getting her keister handed to her by the Bella Twins last week. Ronda demands an explanation, and Nikki and Brie come out to a chorus of boos. The twins refuse to explain themselves by explaining themselves — but does it really matter? Ronda tries to respond, but it’s a lot of Divas talk and bad mic work and comments in really poor taste. It ends with Ronda challenging the Bellas to a fight, security getting involved, and Ronda destroying the security force (including former CHIKARA Grand Champion Icarus).
- Kurt Angle did his best Florida Stanley impression as he spent his vacation hanging around backstage with Chad Gable, Bobby Roode, and No Way Jose. Baron Corbin appears and puts Angle in a match against AoP later tonight — even though Kurt doesn’t have his gear with him!
- The second World Cup qualifying match was up next, with “Don’t Call Him a Lunatic” Dean Ambrose facing Dolph Ziggler. Drew McIntyre tried to interfere at the end, but Seth Rollins helped fight him off. When Rollins tried to help Ambrose back into the ring, Ambrose shoved him away — though he may not have known who was touching him. When Ambrose reentered the ring, he ate a superkick, and Ziggler won the match to get a spot in the tournament. After the match, Ambrose and Rollins ended up in a shoving match, with Roman Reigns trying to keep the peace. Acting GM Baron Corbin then made a six-man tag match for tonight’s main event — The Shield vs. Strowman, Ziggler, and McIntyre again.
In more “hey, haven’t we seen this before” action, Finn Bálor took on Jinder Mahal, with Bayley and Alicia Fox supporting their respective Mixed Match Challenge partners. The return of Samir Singh to join brother Sunil in accompanying Jinder wasn’t enough, as Bálor won with relative ease. After the match, Bobby Lashley and Lio Rush came to the ring for Lashley’s match a wee bit early, preventing Bálor and Bayley from celebrating. Looks like Finn is next on Lashley’s hit list of former NXT Champions.
Lashley’s actual opponent was Tyler Breeze, and ol’ Bob spent
flexing and posing while Rush offered words of encouragement. Breeze hit a single enzuguiri, but immediately fell victim to a stalling vertical suplex and a full nelson, before the Dominator ended things with, well, his version of the Dominator.

- Elias took aim at Philly, including the new Flyers mascot Gritty, before he was interrupted by Apollo Crews. Wait, what? Crews, who can’t lose, is upset about constantly being passed over by other superstars, so he’s out to make his mark on the WWE. Elias tries a sneak attack, but he’s caught with an enzuguiri and a gorilla press slam by Crews.
- In the main event this week, it was once again The Shield against Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler, and Drew McIntyre. The Big Dog actually took quite a bit of punishment in this one, including a Claymore Kick/Zig Zag combo. Eventually things descended into chaos, with Ambrose hitting a Dirty Deeds on McIntyre only for Ziggler to throw Rollins on top of the pinning predicament. Ambrose lost his cool and tried to hit Rollins with a Dirty Deeds, only to be hit with a Zig Zag. Reigns regained enough composure to save his teammates, and a patented Shield triple powerbomb to Dolph spelled the end of the match. Post-match, Strowman hit Ziggler with a running powerslam, but caught a Claymore Kick from McIntyre for his troubles.
