Seventeen years ago, on October 20th, 2002, the WWE Tag Team Championships were born. Since then, the WWE Tag Team Division and its champions on either brand have been a tremendous part of what we love about WWE.

2002 saw the beginning of WWE’s first ever brand extension, splitting the roster in two between Raw and SmackDown. With WWE’s historic World Tag Team Titles now becoming exclusive to the Raw brand, SmackDown needed Tag Titles of their own. This is when SmackDown General Manager Stephanie McMahon introduced the WWE Tag Team Championships, and created a tournament to crown the inaugural champions.

Ultimately, the first ever WWE Tag Team Champions were Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. From there, the titles continued to evolve over the years. They went from being exclusive SmackDown titles, to being unified with the World Tag Team Championships, to being defended on both brands, to becoming exclusive to the Raw brand.

Currently, all of the history of the WWE Tag Team Championships have been carried over into that of the Raw Tag Team Titles, which as of now are currently held by the team of Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler.

Regardless of what these titles are called by name, or of who holds the titles, one thing has always been certain: the title matches over these tag championships have often been known to steal the show. Matches held for these titles have often proven to be the best matches on the card, and we are showcasing just ten examples over the title’s seventeen year history.

Without further ado, here is a look at the ten best matches that have been held for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
