Mae Young Classic 2: Mia Yim vs. Toni Storm

The Mae Young Classic 2 has been the highlight of the week in the entire wrestling world since the tournament began last month, and this past week’s slate of quarterfinal matches offered a full range of emotions.

Lacey Lane vs. Meiko Satomura was a story of an underdog finally meeting her match, Deonna Purrazzo vs. Io Shirai pitted two of the best technical wrestlers in WWE against each other, and Tegan Nox’s injury was the most heart-breaking moment of the year.

There was a lot to unpack out of this week’s Mae Young Classic show, which ended with a bang when Mia Yim and Toni Storm met in the ring to close out the episode. This match was worked at a rapid pace, and you can always expect Yim and Storm to produce an excellent match that has the entire crowd gasping for breath at every fall.

When the match concluded and Storm walked away the victor, Yim received a heart-warming reaction from the crowd, who begged Triple H to sign her. He obliged, and WWE posted videos of the fallout from this.

WWE fans already knew that the company had inked Yim to an NXT deal, but this made it official. Yim joins Chelsea Green, Matt Riddle, and Punishment Martinez as the big names in the latest crop of Performance Center signings.

This match was a great example of how Storm and Yim have done nothing but shine whenever they’ve wrestled in a WWE ring, and I always come away impressed by Yim every time I watch her battle it out.
