It’s Time For WWE To Bring Back Fan Interactive Pay-Per-Views
With the continuing growth of the WWE Network and the social media takeover, the perfect opportunity is right in front of the WWE to bring back a fan interactive pay-per-view like Taboo Tuesday and Cyber Sunday.
The WWE has always been ahead of their time when it comes to innovative ideas. Vince McMahon had the idea of the WWE Network years before the idea would actually come to life. Looking to capitalize on the growing internet sensation in 2004, the WWE presented a new concept named Taboo Tuesday.
This was going to be unlike anything we had ever seen before. For the first time ever, the fans were in control of the matches. Being able to vote on possible match types and create awesome matches was something that I was awe-struck by at a young age.
I felt like I had the entire world at the click of my finger. Unfortunately, to the fans who enjoyed it, the concept lasted only four years from 2004 to 2008 under two different names: Taboo Tuesday and Cyber Sunday.
It has been ten long years since the last Cyber Sunday pay-per-view. Although, now is the perfect time to resurrect this old concept and bring it back for the WWE Network. The growth of social media was only just starting during the span of these events.
Now, social media is a part of the daily life of most people. The WWE has taken a colossal role in social media becoming one of the most trending entertainment sources in the world. The fact that they haven’t brought this concept back already is surprising with the blow-up of social media over recent years.
The WWE currently has over 15 million followers on Instagram along with being one of the top subscribed to channels on YouTube with an outstanding 35 million subscribers. With the impressive statistics, the WWE knows the viewers are watching and they would be voting.
The time also couldn’t be better for the WWE. With the recent growth of the Network; the obvious is staring back at them every time they look into the screen. They continue to create glorified house shows and original content to help fuel their buy rates.
The amount of content being created by the WWE is impressive beyond leaps and bounds. With all of the traffic, the WWE is receiving online, creating an interactive fan pay-per-view could be the gold mine that the WWE is just waiting to strike.
The possibilities are endless whenever it comes to leaving things in the fans hands. We have been treated to classic moments over the years like Shelton Benjamin becoming the WWE Intercontinental Champion for the first time to Honky Tonk Man versus Santino Marella. And Stan, never forget, Stan.
A fan-interactive show this day in time could create some great possibilities. Matches that we can’t see on a weekly basis since the return of the brand split. Who wouldn’t toss their money at the screen to see the possibility of Kurt Angle versus Daniel Bryan?
What about the debut of WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne to face the WWE United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura? The possible return of The Rock voted in to face Elias in a classic rock off? With the power in the hands of the people with this unique concept, we could be treated to some of the best matches we have seen in recent years if done correctly.
With 2018 coming to a close, 2019 could be the year where the WWE sinks their teeth in once again on fan interaction. Pick a day of the week, and make your shot. All the WWE can do is miss, and that isn’t going to hurt them at this stage.
