Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal: Sami Callihan vs Jimmy Havoc
As Callihan makes his way to the ring, Striker mentions that Callihan is nothing more than a hired gun (or bat, I guess) for Promociones Dorado and will take out anybody if the price is right.
Havoc, on the other hand, makes his way to the ring in one of the most luxurious bathrobes I’ve ever laid my eyes on and I’m furiously shouting at Bixby to try to track one down for myself. Christmas is just around the corner and I deserve to treat myself.
Havoc and Callihan start off with a little bit of comedy here with Callihan continuing to try to avoid Havoc with Havoc repeatedly poking Callihan in the eyes. The fun and games end quickly, though, when Havoc breaks out the staple gun and uses it to pierce the chest of Callihan.
Callihan fights his way back with a trio of staples shot into Havoc’s forehead, armpit and… let’s just say the groin. The general groin region. As Havoc tries to recover, the crowd begins chanting “Tie your shoes!” at Callihan which prompts him to remove his untied shoe and hurl it down the entrance ramp.
Havoc is dropped onto a chain he dragged out from under the ring and Callihan scores an early two-count. With Havoc on the outside recovering, Callihan takes the opportunity to remove his other shoe (and his socks decorated with hearts) before attempting to pull Havoc back into the ring.
England’s Most Dangerous Man is back to his old tricks, though, and proceeds to deliver paper cut after paper cut to the webbing of Callihan’s fingers and toes and the corners of his mouth before squeezing a lemon into his mouth. Since there are no real rules in this match and, thus, every rule, Havoc screams at Callihan asking if he gives up to no avail.
With Callihan reeling after an Acid Rainmaker, Havoc receives a gift of salt from a ringside fan before stapling the bottom of Callihan’s foot and literally pouring salt into the wound. As Havoc pulls more treasures out from under the ring, Tony Schiavone delivers a line I’ve surely never heard him deliver before with, “And now we’ve come to the body bag portion of our match.” On point, Tony.
Along with the body bag, Havoc retrieves an urn but finds himself on the receiving end of its contents; as he looked to use the object on Callihan, The Draw knocked the urn into Havoc’s face blinding him with ashes. Callihan delivers a piledriver before cramming Havoc into the body bag, zipping it up and turning briefly toward the crowd.
Before Callihan can celebrate too much, though, Havoc sits up in the body bag, unzips it and spits in the face of Callihan. Callihan responds swiftly with a superkick and another piledriver before pinning Havoc, still in the body bag, for the three count.
Grade: Very Good. Maybe Great? I think it definitely deserves your time as a fun and wild hardcore match.
I’m not the biggest fan of Callihan but apparently, every promoter in North America is, so he continues to be pushed as one of the top guys in every indie across the land. I would have loved to have seen Havoc pick up the victory here to get some much-needed vengeance on Callihan, but so far it doesn’t look as though Havoc is going to be a part of Fightland. With that in mind, it makes sense for Callihan to pick up the win heading into another big match with Tom Lawlor.
