WWE: Cowboy Bob Orton Talks HOF, Randy, and Evolution

I recently sat down with WWE Hall of Famer Cowboy Bob Orton. During the interview, Cowboy Bob Orton discusses working with his Father and his son Randy, Women’s Evolution Pay Per View and more. Below are the highlights from the interview.

Daily DDT: You were able to work alongside your son Randy Orton. What was that like for you being a second-generation wrestler to work with your son Randy and even wrestle alongside him?

Cowboy Bob Orton: It was fantastic. It’s a dream come true. Not many people get to do that. Although, I got to work with my Dad in the seventies. It was a real honor to be back there (WWE) for a little while. Working with The Undertaker, of course, was great.

DDT: What was it like to work with your Father?
CBO: Dad was one of the best during his time period. What a ring psychologist. He was great.

DDT: What was it like to get the call going into the Hall of Fame?
CBO: It was fantastic. To go in with the guys I did, like Roddy, The Shiek, it was a lot of fun. Dad was in the crowd, so I was really honored. It was just an honor to be there because not everyone gets that opportunity.

DDT: Do you think there should be a physical Hall of Fame?
CBO: I never been to the one in Stanford, I thought they had one up there, but I wouldn’t swear to it. I have been to a couple in Waterloo, Iowa I think has a wrestling hall of fame.

DDT: You challenged Bob Backland for the WWF Title and won by count-out. Were you ever in line for a title run?
CBO: Obviously not if I never beat him when I had the chance.

DDT: You’ve feuded with all the greats from Flair, Hogan, Piper, Snuka, Santana. Is there anyone you didn’t get to feud with that you wanted to but it never happened?
CBO: That’s a tough question. There’s a lot of guys that were really good that I probably didn’t get the chance to do stuff like that with, but I’m sure there are guys out there I would have loved to get in the ring with.

DDT: How do you feel your sons careers gone in the WWE?
CBO: He’s fantastic. My Dad was one of the best in his era, I feel like I was one of the best in mine, and Randy has outdone us all. I’m very very proud of Randy.

DDT: What do you think of how wrestling has evolved into what it is today?
CBO: There’s a lot of great talent out there, and it seems to me that moves are more dangerous and spectacular. Me personally, I’d like to see them get back to a little more wrestling instead of the high flying stuff but what sells, sells.

DDT: What do you think of the women getting their own PPV?
CBO: More power to them. I think they’re doing a great job.

DDT: Any last words for your fans out there?
CBO: I appreciate them watching all those years. I had a blast.
