Most people would have probably shuddered at the thought of Randy Orton in the WWE Championship picture heading into 2019.  However, the stars might be aligning for that to take shape and it would actually make quite a bit of sense contrary to popular belief.

The Viper has been back to his old self in recent months since his heel turn at Extreme Rules and subsequent feud with Jeff Hardy.  Orton is back to the version of his character that made him famous in the first place, and that sets up the possibility for a feud with AJ Styles in the near future that would have everybody talking.

Once Styles gets past the Brock Lesnar roadblock at Survivor Series, a feud with The Viper would make a lot of sense.  It’s a feud that the WWE hasn’t done yet, and one that fans have thought about for years.  It could work out tremendously in the sense of a babyface vs. heel feud, as well given how effective both men are with their respective characters.

Orton hasn’t been in the WWE Championship picture in over a year, so this seems like a good time to bring that back, especially with him operating as a heel again.  The Phenomenal One has flourished in feuds with top-level heels lately, and this potential feud would likely result in a tremendous piece of storytelling.

The Phenomenal One vs. The Viper just screams greatness, so much so that don’t be surprised to see it in the near future.
