1. Drew McIntyre

My overall pick to become our next Universal Champion is a man I believe deserves it the most. Drew McIntyre was once the “chosen one” in WWE. However, things went downhill for his career quickly. By 2014, Drew was released from the WWE in the annual roster clean-up. Drew was out of the WWE and people questioned if McIntyre would go down in history has just another “what could have been” superstar.

Although, Drew refused to go out like that. He returned to the independent scene and would almost re-invent himself. We no longer were seeing the arrogant McIntyre that believed that he should be handed things on a silver platter. Now, we were being treated to a more vicious and determined Drew. He soon made his debut in Impact Wrestling where he made his way to the top of the card. He became the TNA World Champion during his tenure there.

Drew made sure that all of the eyes in the wrestling industry were on him. Clearly, they were. Drew McIntyre was soon welcomed back to the WWE with open arms. McIntrye was signed initially to the NXT brand where he was spotted in the audience at NXT Takeover: Orlando. He announced his resigning in an interview after the show. Within four months of returning to WWE and joining NXT, Drew McIntyre becomes the NXT Champion.

The WWE showed that they had changed their view on the former Three Man Band member. Drew became the face of NXT during his time on the roster, but the time he spent on the roster wasn’t all too long. By November 2017, Drew lost the NXT Championship to Andrade “Cien” Almas. This would be Drew’s final match as a member of the NXT roster. A torn bicep forced Drew on the shelf for nearly six months.

When McIntrye was cleared to return, he made his comeback as a member of the RAW brand, aligning himself with Dolph Ziggler. Since then, McIntyre has only continued to rise up the ranks. He has recently been closer to the world championship than he has ever been. With Dolph Ziggler by his side, Drew McIntyre may just be on his way to becoming the WWE Universal Champion. In 2009, Drew McIntyre was “The Chosen One.” In 2019, Drew McIntyre may just be “The One.”
