Fightland: Previewing MLW’s Chicago Debut Tomorrow Night

Rounding Out The Card
Not every match on the show is born out of the need for revenge or in an attempt to put the final nail in the coffin of a long-standing blood feud. Not every match features the debut of a new face in an MLW ring, either, but Fightland is full of fresh matchups that have yet to grace a Major League Wrestling ring.
Brian Pillman Jr has largely competed in multi-man tag team matches alongside Teddy Hart and Davey Boy Smith Jr but at Fightland he faces his most daunting challenge in a singles match to date. With Tommy Dreamer in his sights, this one screams of some kind of bizarro break in the ECW timeline with a true ECW Original going toe to toe with the son of the man who once threatened to urinate in an ECW ring. (I don’t think I ever imagined that I would type a sentence like that in my entire life.)
Joey Ryan and Swoggle will make their debut as a tag team in MLW as they step up to the challenge of The Stud Stable’s Dirty Blondes. Colonel Parker’s Stud Stable has been quiet since Tom Lawlor dismissed of Jake Hager, and Chicago could be a chance for them to refocus their energies on the MLW tag team division.
Teddy Hart versus Jason Cade may be the first match of Hart’s MLW revival where he can finally become a fan favorite. Throughout the feud between The Hart Foundation and ACH & Rich Swann, crowds have been decidedly split between the sides, despite the Foundation doing everything in their power to paint themselves as disillusioned villains. With a star-to-be in Cade, who is growing by leaps and bounds as a cocky heel, this could be an absolute show-stealer.
Kotto Brazil and Trey Miguel will meet in a rematch from a previous encounter on MLW Fusion, where Miguel picked up the win on Brazil. Brazil’s star has been on the rise since the build to War Games, and with a future four-way ladder match for the MLW World Middleweight Title in December to look toward, this is a match Brazil can’t afford to lose.
Finally, Simon Gotch will bring his Prize Fight Challenge with the purse bumped up to $10,000. In Fort Lauderdale, Gotch’s challenge was answered by Gangrel, and Gotch was just able to escape with his money (and in his human form) thanks to a disqualification when the Vampire Warrior sunk his fangs into Gotch’s arm.
If you’re in the Chicago area, your chances at seeing MLW Fightland live are slipping away! The only seats left available are General Admission seats in the bleachers with every other section having sold out in advance of tomorrow’s event. If you’re not lucky enough to be in attendance for the show, you (and I) will have to catch the matches as they become available week to week with MLW Fusion on beIN Sports, YouTube and Fite TV.
