MLW World Middleweight Title: MJF vs Jason Cade vs Jimmy Yuta
Jason Cade and Jimmy Yuta have been engaged in a war ever since the duo split a few months back. Cade was able to come out on top in their first one-on-one match with the help of Rhett Giddins, but Yuta has remained a thorn in the side of Cade ever since.
MJF, on the other hand, has handily fought his way through everyone in his path on his way to first win – and then hold onto – the World Middleweight Title. Friedman has made MLW a Land Without Joeys after tangling with Joey Janela and Joey Ryan, both of whom are now on the shelf with injuries.
With this being an elimination match, MJF and Cade tried to work together to take Yuta out of the picture. As one would expect, though, a miscommunication between the duo would lead to the downfall of their impromptu team. As Cade held Yuta for an MJF fist, Yuta would duck causing the champion to clobber his would-be partner.
Cade, not to be outdone, returned the favor with a shot to MJF’s jaw despite Friedman pleading to Cade that, “We’re cool, right?!” With the door open as both men fell apart, Yuta turned up the heat and looked to put both men away with an attempted Octopus Hold and Ankle Lock in stereo on Cade and MJF.
Out of nowhere, Yuta would roll Cade up and catch a flash pin to eliminate him from the match, making the contest a singles match between champion and challenger. Despite Cade’s elimination, though, he would still play a part in the match.
While Aria Blake, whose elbow was wrapped perhaps due to damaging it on Joey Ryan’s package a few weeks back, distracted the referee, Cade slid back into the ring with a low-blow and a backslide driver on Yuta, leaving him vulnerable to be pinned by MJF.
Grade: Good. Everyone gained something through MJF’s victory.
It’s clear that Cade and Yuta aren’t done with one another, as Cade’s bad attitude won’t allow him to shake his former partner from his psyche. Yuta now has another bone to pick with Cade with the claim that he was moments away from becoming the MLW World Middleweight Champion before his interference changed the course of the match. Will we see the two collide once more to determine a definitive winner in their feud at a future MLW show?
MJF and Aria continued to do what they do best here and in their earlier segment in the show – be smarmy, slimy jerks always looking to benefit from their numbers advantage. As soon as the match became one-on-one, Aria was there to make sure MJF (by way of Cade) could find a shortcut to retain the championship.
