WWE: Bobby Lashley Should Finally Beat Brock Lesnar
By David Joseph
The goal for the past few years has been to give Roman Reigns his big win over Brock Lesnar. Roman Reigns got his win and conquered ‘the conqueror’. This solidified Reigns as the top guy in the WWE (as if he wasn’t already). Unfortunately, due to illness the big dog won’t be in the rotation of things to continue his momentum. This leaves a golden opportunity open for a guy like Booby Lashley.
First off, in a logical and perfect world Braun Strowman would be WWE Universal Champion. The Monster Among Men was the favorite at Crown Jewel to defeat Brock Lesnar. For whatever reason, WWE keeps playing the bait and switch game with Strowman. It is a little bit frustrating and confusing for fans. He has won over the fans, has had endless memorable moments, and is a freak athlete. Athletes like Braun Strowman don’t grow on trees.
Sadly, at this point, another Braun Strowman vs Brock Lesnar would no longer be a big deal. Everyone has seen Strowman lose to the beast too much. A monster should not show THIS much vulnerability if he needs to ascend to the top. Moreover, the pairing is not the greatest to begin with. Despite him being a heel, this allows for Bobby Lashley to enter the equation.
The former ECW champion has recently gained a mouthpiece in Lio Rush. The duo is still developing some chemistry, but you can already see the benefits of having a mouthpiece. Lashley can focus on being a killer athlete in the ring. Lio Rush will do the promo work. The man of the hour has a witty charm to him. The pair already smells like money. Imagine Paul Heyman and Lio Rush verbally tearing each other a new one.
This is no knock to the smaller guys, but size still does sell. Fans appreciate the ability of guys like Sami Zayn and Daniel Bryan, and rightfully so. However, if you see one of them at the airport, they do not turn heads when they walk in a room. Bobby Lashley passes that eye test. With his freakish size and explosiveness, he is arguably the most believable opponent to beat Lesnar right now. Two true heavyweights colliding is always fun to watch.
Additionally, a win like that would establish Lashley as one of this era’s greats instantly. He needs a monumental victory for fans to identify him with. He has all the tools a wrestling promotion needs in a main event heavyweight.
More importantly, the representation aspect of a Lashley win is being underestimated. Let’s be honest, there has rarely been a black world champion in the WWE. It is fair to say there have not been enough opportunities given to superstars who obviously have the potential. Superstars like Bobby Lashley, Kofi Kingston, and Big E could thrive as world champion. They just never got the storyline and positioning to even try. It is important for fans and even other black wrestlers to see people like them on top. This will show that talent does rise to the top, no matter your color or background.
Bobby Lashley is a legit tough guy and proven MMA competitor. He has the amateur wrestling credentials as well. He has had a solid wrestling career in WWE and Impact Wrestling. Still, he is not yet a bonafide main event player. If he beats Lesnar for the championship at a Wrestlemainia or Royal Rumble, he will be an all time great.
