Fitting End to a Rivalry

Buddy Murphy joined the 205 Live roster back in February, when he was one of the eight participants in the Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. Murphy won his first round contest, but lost in round two to Mustafa Ali. Since that early March bout, Ali and Murphy have never been too far apart on the card, nor in the ring.

Following the end of the tournament at WrestleMania 34, Ali and Murphy have faced off an additional three times in singles matches, with Ali the victor twice. Their so-far final bout, a No Disqualification Match in July, was one of the best matches of the year in all of WWE.

After the sheer chaos of the No DQ contest, Murphy and Ali have been on separate paths. While Ali continued at his breakneck pace — much to the chagrin of 205 Live GM Drake Maverick — and feuded with Hideo Itami, Murphy went on to do something his rival has yet to do: win the Cruiserweight Championship.

With a new chapter set to be written in this outstanding rivalry, wouldn’t a victory by Ali to truly cement himself as the better competitor be the best end? Ali already has the edge in non-title bouts, so what’s to stop him from doing the same with gold on the line?

While the rest of Survivor Series is devoted to the competition between Raw and SmackDown, Ali should take his place at the top of the WWE cruiserweight division — a place he’s earned several times over.
