Daniel Bryan is a Paul Heyman Guy
Many fans, myself included, were incredibly shocked when Daniel Bryan defeated AJ Styles to become the new WWE Champion on this week’s edition of SmackDown Live.
Bryan didn’t really have that much momentum coming into the bout, and the fact that the WWE decided to take the title off AJ Styles, who had held it for the best part of a year, on an episode of SmackDown, really messed with the fan’s expectations.
Of course, the biggest talking point here is that Bryan also turned heel during the match, which is a huge change of direction for the former SmackDown GM.
It could turn to be a stroke of genius though, with Bryan having been booked pretty poorly since he made his official return to the ring in April.
One of the most intriguing aspects of Bryan’s title victory, however, was that earlier in the show, Paul Heyman had come to SmackDown to get in AJ Styles’ head and convince him that Daniel Bryan was better than him.
Heyman’s provocations turned out to be the catalyst for Bryan’s victory, and the WWE could decide to build on this going forward.
There have long been rumours of Heyman getting a new client this year, and Bryan being revealed as such at Survivor Series would definitely be a massive twist.
Whether fans like it or not, Bryan had grown stale as a face and having him partner up with Heyman and become the biggest heel on SmackDown could see the former World Heavyweight Champion have one of the most successful runs of his career.
