Kotto Brazil vs Trey Miguel

The MLW World Middleweight Champion MJF was on commentary here and immediately commented that it was great to see Ricochet is back in MLW upon seeing Miguel make his way to the ring. I’d never really thought about it before, but it’s a funny comparison to make and helps to cement MJF as a self-centered goon who can’t tell one wrestler from another if they aren’t on his radar.

As Kotto Brazil made his way to the ring, MJF fired off with the devastating line, “Kotto can? More like Kotto can’t!” I hope Kotto had some salve waiting for him after the match for that sick burn. Ruthless verbal attacks from the World Middleweight Champion!

Kotto started things off with some high-flying to throw Miguel off-balance, but the future challenger for the World Middleweight Title found himself crotched on the top rope when attempting to continue his onslaught. Miguel was able to slow things down a bit and use his striking ability to keep Brazil off of his feet.

Fighting back against the larger opponent, Brazil nailed what looked to be an attempt at a poison rana on Miguel. Whatever it was meant to be, Miguel was planted head-first into the mat giving Brazil time enough to recover. Following up, Brazil strung together a series of dives to Miguel on the outside using his clear speed advantage to wear his opponent down.

Despite a last-minute rally from Miguel including a springboard cutter from the bottom rope, Brazil found himself able to hit his own version of Destino to pick up the victory.

Grade: Good. A solid, if messy at times, match with some delightful commentary from MJF, Rich and Tony.

MJF was enjoyable on commentary if a little overbearing at times. He tore into Brazil for most of the match in an effort to build to the 4-way ladder match for the World Middleweight Title in Miami in December. There’s always a line that can be crossed between a wrestler on commentary adding to the match and distracting from the match and I feel like we found ourselves teetering on that line at times.

Nonetheless, MJF is so quick and sharp with his responses to both Rich and Tony making it clear as day that he’s one of the most dynamic speakers on the indies right now. Friedman always delivers on the mic and is able to bring it in the ring most of the time, and the title defense at Zero Hour on December 14 will be another chance for him to shine.
