SmackDown’s Women’s Division is Everything
After watching SmackDown Live this week there should be no argument against the idea of TLC’s main event slot going to the triple threat match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Becky Lynch returned to television following her concussion and “broken face” at the hands of Nia Jax and, within moments on the microphone, we were reminded why Becky is the best thing the blue brand has had going since the onset of the modern day brand split.
As it stands, “The Man” is set to defend the SmackDown Women’s Title against Charlotte Flair and Asuka at TLC in an actual TLC match. There is so much history between these three women that it’s difficult to imagine a more perfect title picture. The dynamic between Becky and Charlotte has been front and center all year on SmackDown and, when it’s all said and done, will likely define 2018 for WWE. Asuka’s been lost in the shuffle for a while, but it’s high time she’s given this platform again and she’s more than able to take advantage.
Charlotte and Asuka are obviously worthy contenders and the battle royal scenario that determined Asuka’s placement in this first ever women’s TLC match was an excellent example of the people at SmackDown showing those at Raw how to properly utilize an entire women’s division.
Every female Superstar on SmackDown seems to believe General Manager Paige is underestimating their desire to be champions, and with several minor rivalries brewing among those who didn’t qualify for TLC, it should make for some interesting viewing moving forward.
SmackDown Live showed once again this week that the blue brand really is the land of opportunity, especially for the female WWE Superstars. SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch is probably the most solid and entertaining champion of any gender WWE has had in years.
Raw managed to actually use most of the women on the roster, even though the segment was sloppy. NXT UK crowned their first Women’s Champion in Rhea Ripley, who shines a particularly bright light on the future of Raw and SmackDown.
Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey might be the biggest name in women’s wrestling, but at the end of the day, the other ladies of WWE are going to make it difficult for her to stay on top.
