ROH: A Beginner’s Guide Before Final Battle 2018
Tag Teams
The Briscoes – Jay & Mark Briscoe
Jay & Mark have been with ROH since the early days in 2002. Real-life brothers, they have been known for their incredible timing and in ring chemistry with each other. The Briscoes are, without question, the most decorated tag team in Ring of Honor history.
The Young Bucks – Matt & Nick Jackson
The Young Bucks have been one of the best tag teams in the world for several years now. Members of the The Elite, they have seen their popularity explode in recent years through their smart marketing, widespread merchandise deals with Hot Topic, creative storytelling with Being the Elite, and great fan relations. They are among the few that showed that there is a living to be made in wrestling outside of WWE, including producing their own show, All In, which sold over 10,000 tickets and was the first non-WWE event in North American wrestling to hit 10,000 people at a show since WCW died.
They are multi-time tag team champions and multi-time Six-Man Tag Team Champions in ROH. There can be no question that they are a major reason why ROH and NJPW sold out Madison Square Garden for the G1 Supercard in April, and you can be sure that what they do next will be something to watch. The current storyline they are moving forward with is that they are going to leave ROH for elsewhere. However, I can’t imagine they are going anywhere, especially where they are so central to ROH’s success.
The Best Friends – Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta
The Best Friends are one of wrestling’s most entertaining acts. Beretta and Taylor attempt to use the power of their friendship to overcome opponents, including having mid-match hugs. However, this hasn’t quite worked out well yet, as they have yet to hold ROH gold. You can bet that they will eventually, and that will be a wonderful day when they do.
While doing comedy really well in their matches, both Taylor and Beretta are quite capable of having outstanding matches. Their natural chemistry as a tag team makes all their matches entertaining, and they are known to go all out to deliver for the fans. Taylor and Beretta have a bright future in ROH, and it’s only a matter of time before they hold Ring of Honor gold.
The Bouncers – The Beer City Bruiser & Brian Milonas
The Beer City Bruiser (who I refer to as Mr. Beer) and Brian Milonas are two of the biggest men in ROH – and two of the angriest at that. Uniting with Silas Young, Mr. Beer and Brian have proven to be the muscle to help him win matches through nefarious means. Beer and Brian are excessively violent, bringing pain to all their opponents. All they want to do is beat people up and drink beer, clearly not motivated by any conventional means.
Coast 2 Coast – LSG & Shaheem Ali
This young, high-flying tag team haven’t had many major wins yet in ROH, but whenever they’re in the ring you can expect an exciting match. This team will be looking to break out of the pack in 2019, and I suspect that we will see them move into a higher position as ROH moves forward.
The Dawgz – Rhett Titus & Will Ferrara
Rhett Titus has been with Ring of Honor several times over the years and seems to have finally found his niche in a tag team with Will Ferrara. Ferrara used to team up with Cheeseburger, but turned on his partner and joined up with Titus. So far, they have made a solid lower-card heel tag team.
The Boys – Boy #1 & Boy #2
The Boys are a bit of a mystery. Seen accompanying Dalton Castle to the ring, The Boys are twin brothers who support Castle in any way they can. The highest heights they reached was when they won the ROH Six-Man Tag Team titles with Dalton Castle. The young men have proven to be exceptionally talented high flyers, and the sky seems to be the limit for them.
