3. This Is Dean Ambrose’s Chance To Show He’s Back

In 2016, Dean Ambrose was an absolute workhorse, carrying the WWE Championship with pride after cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase on Seth Rollins, who pinned Roman Reigns with a beautiful spear-into-pedigree counter, to steal the heel Architect’s big night.

Ambrose would lose the title to AJ Styles, with their feud finishing when [redacted] betrayed Dean in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match to hand “The Phenomenal One” the title. For months, Ambrose was one of the most entertaining men in WWE, even wearing a “Mountie” costume to troll Shane McMahon post-Survivor Series (Ambrose betrayed his own team and helped Rollins and Reigns to briefly reunite The Shield that night).

But when Ambrose left the WWE Championship picture and became the Intercontinental Champion, we just didn’t get to see the best that he had to offer. Ambrose was reduced to “second fiddle” on both SmackDown Live and Raw, even defending the Intercontinental Championship on the WrestleMania 33 pre-show in a forgettable match against Corbin. While Dean did all he could, WWE wrote his character as a “jokey” version of Ambrose, and they never got behind him as a champion, even in his promising feud with The Miz.

Since then, Ambrose’s most notable work came in his tag team with Rollins, as the duo teamed up for a huge title win at SummerSlam against The Bar. Ambrose was quietly building momentum before an awful triceps tear costed the WWE’s upper mid-card workhorse months of his career.
