Heavy Machinery Is Primed For A Breakout 2019 In WWE
By Brett Grega
After helping EC3 fend off The Undisputed Era, and in the process earning themselves a WWE NXT Tag Team Championship match on December 26th, Heavy Machinery looks poised for a breakout performance in 2019!
It’s no secret that the dynamic tandem of Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight have become fan favorites on NXT in 2018. The comedic stylings of the duo, combined with some thrilling in-ring performances, have gone a long way to forging a strong bond with WWE fans.
Now, after coming to the aid of EC3 during an attempted post-match beat down by The Undisputed Era, Heavy Machinery have earned themselves an upcoming NXT Tag Team Championship match on December 26th.
No matter the result of the match, it looks like WWE is ready to rocket Heavy Machinery into stardom as we head into the new year.
A push for the always exciting team is long overdue at this point. Heavy Machinery have consistently made themselves some of the most entertaining tag team competitors on NXT in 2018.
They’re promos where they eagerly discuss their love of “steaks and weights” have always been able to elicit laughs, while their in-ring work has quietly and consistently improved throughout the year. They’ve held their own on multiple occasions with incredibly technically gifted teams like The Mighty by bringing a unique blend of impactful power moves and humorous comedy-based attacks like Dozovic’s unmistakable caterpillar elbow drop.
That’s without even mentioning some of the truly spotlight-grabbing matches from Dozovic and Knight throughout the year, like their collision with The War Raiders in May or Dozovic’s thrilling match against NXT champion Tommaso Ciampa in September:
That bout in of itself remains one of NXT’s most underrated matches of 2018. It brought all the storytelling and intensity of a Takeover main event caliber bout to weekly NXT TV.
Its performances like that which make me believe Heavy Machinery is ready for a breakout year in 2019. They have all of the elements that make for a great tag team. They just need the sustained opportunity to show it.
Luckily, that opportunity appears to be right around the corner with their impending tag team championship match against The Undisputed Era. While it may be unlikely that the tag titles change hands on a weekly episode of NXT, given The Undisputed Era’s undeniable popularity, this match could easily serve as the launching point for an extended program between the two teams in 2019.
A push for Heavy Machinery that sees the tandem in an underdog role searching for that big win against The Undisputed Era could easily be the star-making angle that Heavy Machinery needs to cement themselves at the top of WWE’s tag team ranks.
From there, I would argue its only a matter of time before Dozovic and Knight either capture gold in NXT, or are called-up to the main roster to help fill the holes Raw currently has in its tag team division.
Either way, I expect to see some big things in 2019 from NXT’s two entertaining big men.
