Hideo Itami vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
History also has a special place in professional wrestling; especially when history has missed the opportunity to place two big, cultural stars against one another in the ring. While in Japan, Hideo Itami was a huge star known as KENTA.
When he was brought over to the WWE it was expected that he would become one of the bigger stars to come from that country and insert himself into the American wrestling scene. Unfortunately, injuries have kept him behind the curve, but he’s slowly began to reemerge as a must-see name on the 205 Live brand.
But while he was out with injuries, Shinsuke Nakamura has stepped into that role as a premiere talent that has attracted fans. When he won the Royal Rumble in 2018 it seemed like he was on his way to big things. However, his run has stalled – even as he carries the United States title.
For whatever reason, it seems like leadership within the WWE has lost faith in Nakamura as a main event talent. But a match with Itami would immediately remind them that he’s a force to be reckoned with.
Nakamura and Itami both embody the strong style wrestling that was popularized in Japan. Getting these two men together in the ring would be one of the harder hitting matches available in the WWE today. In no way, would this match be for the squeamish at heart; as the shots and technical wrestling would look painful from the very start.
The action would be a perfect mix of every component of strong style wrestling that has yet to get its full appreciation in the WWE. But both men can tell a story in the match, even if they aren’t completely fluent in the native tongue. This match would have cultural reference to both the hardcore wrestling fan and Japanese fans that tune into WWWE content. Itami versus Nakamura is a match that books itself.
