The Deflated State of the Raw Women’s Title

Meanwhile, the title picture on Raw is front and center, as it should be. Unfortunately the wrong women are in the frame.

Natalya and Ruby Riott should definitely be in the conversation for the Raw Women’s Championship; their recent program has been far more worthy of the title than the drivel WWE has been sloppily throwing together between “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey and Nia Jax.

Whatever momentum Nia Jax had after breaking Becky Lynch’s face a few weeks ago is almost completely gone. I want to root for Nia because she’s super gifted and has a great presence, but WWE has missed the boat here on more than one occasion. It’s clear they have no idea how to play to this woman’s strengths because every time they try to get something going the ship sinks fast.

As for Ronda Rousey, the proof is in the pudding. She’s awesome, she really is. Her promo work is improving all the time and she’s practically a natural in the ring, but why does this woman have the Women’s Title? Is it solely because of her name value? That must be it because the best storyline she’s had going since arriving on the scene happened with Charlotte Flair at Survivor Series and that’s been on the backburner.

The best things to come from this feud has been the renewed screen time for Ember Moon and the utilization of the eternally underrated Tamina Snuka, who faced one another on Raw to represent the champion and challenger, respectively. It was a solid match that saw Ember look great in going over her veteran opponent.

Even though it’s hard to pull for Nia Jax given WWE’s inability to use her to her full potential, I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be best for her to beat Rousey for the title at TLC. Rousey would be free to feud with the women of SmackDown Live, who are totally on fire. Nia, on the other hand, could carry the title into other feuds with women like Natalya, Ruby Riott and Ember Moon.

All I know for certain is the Raw Women’s Title picture is almost as dead as the Raw Tag Team Title picture, and that’s just terribly unfortunate.
