2. Can Asuka thrive alongside Charlotte and Becky Lynch?

Asuka managed to overcome insurmountable odds and win the SmackDown Women’s title this past Sunday. However, her win came under dubious circumstances. The Raw Women’s champion Ronda Rousey would interfere during the final moments of the triple threat TLC match. This happened at a time when both Lynch and Charlotte were going neck and neck for the title.

Ronda’s interference paved the way for Asuka to capture the gold while both of her opponents were taken out thanks to falling off the ladder. Does that make her title win any special? At the least she could have fended off a last-ditch attempt by a never say die Lynch. That would have added some credibility to her title win. Instead, Asuka, one of the fiercest competitors in the division ended up becoming someone who won the title only because they were at the right place in the right time.

Things didn’t work out in favor of her on Tuesday either as both Charlotte and Lynch outmaneuvered her on the mic, nullifying her claims that she is the champion. You can’t blame anyone else if you felt like Asuka wasn’t as big a star as Lynch and Charlotte are at this point. She simply wasn’t presented as a credible champion in front of the two other women who were defeated largely in thanks to Ronda Rousey.

Will the Empress of Tomorrow be able to work her away around her two rivals going forward? A strong performance in  the ring did not help her this week. She needs a character shift or attitude change to hang in with the anti-hero characteristics of Becky Lynch.
