WWE: 5 Ways To Handle Sami Zayn Properly When He Returns
By Laura Mauro
1. Tag Champs With Kevin Owens
It’s not just Sami who’ll be gracing our screens again soon. Long time friend/foe Kevin Owens is also due to return from knee surgery anytime soon. And one of the better outcomes of Sami’s heel turn was seeing him reunited with Owens after years of mutual antipathy.
The two have been an on-again, off-again team for over a decade, taking their double act from Ring of Honor to Pro Wrestling Guerilla. It was only a matter of time before they’d bury the hatchet in their WWE incarnations.
Kevin and Sami are an undeniably great team. Sami’s irritatingly abundant energy makes him the perfect foil to Kevin’s slow, glowering menace – comparisons to Martin Prince and Nelson Muntz from the Simpsons are hilariously apt.
And with years of experience wrestling as a duo, it seemed inevitable that the pair were destined for a tag team run before injuries took them both out of the running.
While both wrestlers are easily good enough to forge successful singles careers (and indeed, Kevin already has one Universal Championship run under his belt), it would be fun to see them run with the tag belts. Breaking them up so soon would feel like a waste, not least as they had built quite a rapport with the crowd as an obnoxious heel duo.
The RAW tag scene is a little lackluster as it stands. Authors of Pain recently dropped the belts to Bobby Roode and Chad Gable, and outside of these two teams there are no real contenders ready to step up.
Lucha House Party, for all their talent, are largely a comedy squad, and both The Revival and The Ascension lack credibility.
Kevin and Sami, on the other hand, have the credentials, the ability and the fan interest necessary to propel them to the top of the RAW tag division.
Besides which – as all Kevin and Sami followers will know, a season in the sun will serve to make their eventual breakup all the more painful and dramatic. And isn’t that what we all really want?
Tag gold would be a nice addition to Sami’s WWE CV, but it’s not the only championship up for grabs…
