Finn Balor

It’s been a tough road for Finn Balor. Despite a successful run in NXT leading to his debut on the main roster and the monumental win that made him the first-ever Universal Champion, an injury forced him to relinquish that belt only one night after capturing it. In less than 24 hours, Finn Balor went from being the hand-picked future of Raw, capturing their brand new World Championship and ready to be an anchor on the show, to being on the shelf without a title.

Finn would spend the rest of 2016, and the early months of 2017, recovering from shoulder surgery. He finally returned after WrestleMania 33, but has struggled to find his way back to the main event scene since then. While there have been blips of greatness such as his impromptu match with AJ Styles at TLC in 2017 or his strong showing against Seth Rollins and The Miz in an Intercontinental Championship Match at WrestleMania 34, nothing has quite hit like fans know it should.

More than anything, Finn has been a victim of inconsistent booking and poor writing. He’s been in a revolving door of rivalries on Raw, most recently dealing with a vendetta held by then-General Manager Elect Baron Corbin. The two have had issues in the past, which always seem to revolve around Corbin making jokes about Finn’s height. It hasn’t stopped Balor from defeating Corbin on multiple occasions, but the story continued.

However, there’s no doubting the capability of Balor. He’s only become a more refined version of the Finn Balor that captured the Universal Championship in 2016, and he picked up a big win over Drew McIntyre at TLC. He’s set to face McIntyre and Ziggler in a triple threat match this coming Monday on Raw, and a win would go a long way in building momentum towards the Royal Rumble. Could we maybe even see “The Demon” return to put Finn back into the title hunt?
