SmackDown Women’s Championship: Becky Lynch

No superstar in the WWE has risen faster in 2018 than what Becky Lynch has done over the past few months.  The once underutilized Lynch has shattered the glass ceiling and developed into the hottest superstar in the WWE and, quite possibly, the hottest superstar in all of pro wrestling.

The SmackDown Women’s Championship has been in good hands throughout all of 2018, beginning the year with Charlotte Flair as the champion.  Carmella’s reign as champion was a pleasant sight to see as well, but everything changed at SummerSlam when Carmella dropped the title to Charlotte alongside Lynch in a Triple Threat Match.  After the match, Lynch turned on and attacked her former best friend Charlotte.

From that point on, The Man was born.  Lynch won the SmackDown Women’s Championship from Charlotte at Hell In A Cell and the outstanding feud between the two hit its apex at Evolution when Lynch retained the title against Charlotte in arguably the match of the year in a Last Woman Standing match.  Despite the unfortunate injury Lynch suffered prior to Survivor Series that took her match with Ronda Rousey off the table, it didn’t slow Lynch down.

The Man returned to action at TLC in a Triple Threat Match contested under Tables, Ladders, and Chairs rules alongside Charlotte and Asuka in what could go down as the match of the year in the WWE.  Asuka won the title thanks, in large part, to the interference and continuing feud with Lynch, Flair, and Rousey.  There’s no overstating how important Lynch was to the WWE in 2018, especially for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

She had a rise similar to CM Punk in 2011 and Daniel Bryan in 2013/2014, and The Man goes down as the best SmackDown Women’s Champion of 2018.
