WWE: Top 10 Feel Good Moments of 2018
2. Mustafa Ali Punches His Ticket To WrestleMania
Mustafa Ali’s 2018 might be one of the best anyone had in WWE. Dubbed “the Heart of 205 Live,” he became a pillar of the purple and orange brand in the wake of the brand’s retooling early in the year. With constantly great matches, a WrestleMania match, a bittersweet feud with Hideo Itami, and a declaration of being in half of the top 10 matches in the first 100 episodes of 205 Live, Ali was eventually “called up” to SmackDown Live where he pinned WWE Champion Daniel Bryan clean on his second ever match on the blue brand.
Probably the biggest feel-good moment of the year for Ali, though. was when he won his spot at Mania. After two amazing and exhausting matches with Jack Gallagher and Buddy Murphy, Ali found himself in the semi-finals against his long time rival Drew Gulak. Predictably, the two of them found themselves in a slugfest, especially with Gulak finding a new intensity that had him tearing through the field. However, Ali was able to escape Gulak’s Dragon Sleeper and knocked him down long enough to hit a 054 and earn his spot at WrestleMania.
Through teary eyes in the post match interview, Ali declared that he won the match for the fans of 205 Live after the match. “My entire life, I’ve had one mission: to prove that it doesn’t matter what your name is. It doesn’t matter where you’re from. It doesn’t matter what the color of your skin is. All that matters is what’s in your heart.”
The cherry on top of that moment is that Ali hugged his wife Uzma after the match in a beautiful moment of love and support.
While Ali may not have won the Mania match, the former Cruiserweight Classic alternate more than earned his spot, and it was absolutely beautiful.
