5.) Mia Yim Gets Signed to NXT

Mia Yim’s journey to WWE was not the easiest one. Already a one-time participant in the Mae Young Classic, the former Queen of the Knockouts was a welcome addition to the second year of the all women’s tournament. However, Yim wasn’t just there to be a repeat entrant. She was a woman on a mission after she got an ankle injury following last year’s tournament.

After astounding matches with longtime rival Allysin Kay (known as Sienna in Impact Wrestling) and the returning Kaitlyn, Yim appeared to be blazing a path to victory. However, despite turning out another fantastic match, Yim ended up losing to the tournament’s eventual winner Toni Storm.

While she may have lost the tournament, Yim still got a moral victory when the crowd chanted for her to be signed. And like Cedric Alexander before her, Triple H couldn’t help but give the crowd what they wanted. Backstage, he welcomed Yim to the fold.

In her post-match signing/interview, Yim shed many happy tears and promised she’d call her dad first thing to tell him “I’d told you I’d make it.” In a year full of rough moments, it was incredibly satisfying to see someone amazing achieve her dreams.
