3.) Buddy Murphy Wins the WWE Cruiserweight Championship

Lost in the shuffle of WWE’s multiple Saudi shows was WWE Super Show Down in Melbourne, Australia, which was the first pay per view event ever to take place in the country. While it was a mostly glorified house show based on the card, it actually was a super fun event and the Australian crowd was absolutely on fire throughout the night.

The match of the night, though, was the Cruiserweight Championship match, featuring Cedric Alexander and Melbourne’s own Buddy Murphy.

Murphy had started his year as something of an odd man out in the Cruiserweight Division, constantly having to make weight to continue to have a spot in the Cruiserweight Tournament and 205 Live. However, he slowly proved himself to be a valuable member of the division and earned a championship spot at the first ever PPV in his hometown.

While Murphy has usually been a villain in his career, he was 100-percent the hero that night as he walked to the ring with the Australian flag wrapped around his waist. The match was a hard hitting back and forth between Alexander and Murphy, but the tide changed pretty quickly after Murphy became the first person to kick out of the Lumbar Check and he hit a Murphy’s Law on Alexander. The crowd explosion alone was enough to pull at your heartstrings, but the absolute pride on Murphy’s face was the perfect emotional cherry on top.
