The Chosen One himself.
Drew McIntyre made his long awaited return to WWE in 2017, but ended the year on a dour note. Once the resident top face of NXT, not only did he lose the NXT Championship at NXT Takeover: War Games, but he was injured in the same match, preventing him from getting an obligated rematch.
Instead, he would return via a call-up to the main roster as Dolph Ziggler’s heel muscle man. McIntyre made the onscreen transition from face to heel look all too easy as he completely transformed his presentation as a WWE Superstar.
His presence as a 6’5” merciless monster not only helped make Ziggler relevant after his career’s been stagnant these past couple years, but McIntyre solidified himself as Raw’s premiere main-eventer; especially now in the wake of injuries from both Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns.
McIntyre’s best heel performance of the year by far has to be when he completely decimated Kurt Angle in the main event of Raw a few months back. With a cold stare and a sick pleasure, he made Angle tap out with his own Ankle Lock, a sight we couldn’t possibly forget. If McIntyre manages to pull off more performances like that, then we could see an upcoming Universal Championship run in his future.
