Bound for Glory

Despite the fact that Bound for Glory was Impact’s marquee event for 2018, it comes just shy of taking the spot for best Impact Wrestling pay-per-view of 2018. That means you already know the answer for who took that number one spot, but don’t skip ahead just yet. Bound for Glory was still a spectacular event, and featured some truly unforgettable matches. In the night’s Knockouts Championship Match, reigning champ Tessa Blanchard had to defend her title against Taya Valkyrie.

What followed was one of the best matches all night and a reminder that the Knockouts Division are part of what makes Impact Wrestling special. Both women put out an amazing effort, and Taya Valkyrie solidified herself as a contender despite coming up just short of leaving with gold.

It was a great wrestling match, which is something that just isn’t applicable to the most memorable match of the night. That isn’t to say it wasn’t good, but “wrestling” can only loosely be applied to the Concrete Jungle Death Match that pitted LAX against The OGz.

Whether it was deadly weapon spots or the sheer danger of the ring’s wooden foundation shifting all over the place, it doesn’t get much more extreme than this. LAX was able to eventually pick up the win and put away The OGz, but they walked out more as survivors rather than winners.

The final match of the night saw Austin Aries defend his World Championship against Johnny Impact. It was a great match, but all anyone could talk about afterwards was Austin Aries popping to his feet after losing, shooting some obscene words and gestures at Don Callis, and disappearing from Impact.

It was a poor way for Aries to close out his career in Impact Wrestling, but Johnny Impact happily took the mantle and has been a spectacular champion for Impact throughout the rest of 2018.
