2. TLC
The final pay-per-view of 2018 was only about two weeks ago, but its freshness doesn’t take away how impactful of a show it turned out to be. TLC has been an annual WWE pay-per-view since 2009, but the 2018 version really stands out among a decade of prior shows.
TLC 2018’s main card got started with The Fabulous Truth’s Mixed Match Challenge finals win over Mahalicia in a fun little match. The Bar vs. The New Day vs. The Usos for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship was a very good match that probably should have gotten more time before Sheamus and Cesaro retained. Braun Strowman’s win over Baron Corbin in a TLC match was perfectly overbooked given how Strowman was injured and unable to legitimately compete.
Natalya vs. Ruby Riott in a Tables Match was very good, but seeing Nattie get revenge and the win over Riott was sweet. Finn Balor defeating Drew McIntyre was solid, Rey Mysterio’s win over Randy Orton in a Chairs Match was pretty good, and Ronda Rousey’s win over Nia Jax to retain the Raw Women’s Championship was one of the best Rousey or Jax matches of the year. Daniel Bryan retaining his WWE Championship against AJ Styles was an outstanding match as well.
Dean Ambrose defeating Seth Rollins for the Intercontinental Championship wasn’t quite as great as most thought it would be, even though it was still good. However, the main event would tear the house down when Becky Lynch defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Asuka and Charlotte Flair in the first-ever women’s Triple Threat TLC Match. In possibly the match of the year, Asuka won the gold in large part because of Rousey’s late interference.
This was a great pay-per-view that featured several high-quality matches, including maybe the odds-on favorite to win match of the year in 2018 in the WWE.
