WWE: Drake Maverick Has His Eyes On DJZ For 205 Live
WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick has been praised heavily for his work in leading the brand this year, and he has his eyes on a big acquisition for 2019, with DJZ set to leave Impact Wrestling.
In January 2018, Daniel Bryan announced that Drake Maverick would be the new general manager of WWE 205 Live, ushering in a new era for the Cruiserweight Division. After an amazing Cruiserweight Championship Tournament and scintillating matches each and every week, with Cedric Alexander leading the way as the brand’s champion, 205 was safely in good hands.
Maverick’s ability to juggle egos and tirelessly promote the brand on Twitter made him a popular GM, even as his work as the Authors of Pain’s General Manager irked some (he’s a heel on Raw) and made a few fans wonder if he’d be able to split both duties effectively.
He’s answered those concerns by maintaining high levels of performance on 205 Live, which is starting to showcase its performers on Raw and get more Pay Per View matches. But Maverick isn’t stopping there, as he seems to have his eyes set on acquiring a wrestler from Impact Wrestling for 2019.
WrestleZone’s Bill Pritchard first reported that DJZ would be leaving Impact Wrestling after spending seven years with the company, and this would be his first time testing the free agent waters. While the rumored All Elite Wrestling could be a great landing spot for DJZ, the X Division star could also be a fit for WWE’s Cruiserweight Division.

Pretty much every star signed to WWE ends up starting in NXT or the Performance Center, unless they are especially experienced and gifted like AJ Styles. Maverick is just playing to kayfabe by teasing interest in DJZ, whom he worked with in the promotion, but DJZ is an underrated wrestler who could really blossom on WWE’s platform. He could be a natural fit for 205 Live, which is a one-hour showcase of exciting wrestling, and DJZ’s skills as a wrestler translate well to a fast-paced working environment that features wrestlers like Drew Gulak, Akira Tozawa, Buddy Murphy, and Lio Rush.
It will be interesting to see if DJZ gets interest from WWE in 2019, but he did tweet confirmation that he will be a free agent when the clock strikes 12 and the new year begins.

The Cruiserweight Division is loaded right now, but with Mustafa Ali on SmackDown Live and perhaps Murphy and Alexander headed to the main roster one day, there could be room for other wrestlers to join in. DJZ, again, would have to go through WWE’s “developmental”, but he could eventually be an intriguing member of the 205 roster.
