8. Apr. 2 Raw vs. Finn Balor Non-Title

Seth Rollins and Finn Balor have quite the history, as nobody will forget Balor’s SummerSlam 2016 victory over Seth for the Universal Title any time soon. Their series of matches in 2018, however, were even better, and this match on Raw was one of the best of the bunch.

Another 20-minute epic involving Rollins, these two superstars started slowly before absolutely blowing the roof off the place after the commercial break for the second half of their match. With Miz putting these two over on commentary before their WrestleMania 34 Triple Threat for the Intercontinental Championship, this match felt special and made the Intercontinental Championship seem like the title in that moment (in spite of the focus on Brock Lesnar prior to ‘Mania).

There were so many counters of big moves into roll-ups in this match, and it made the final minutes of the bout feel even more intense. Rollins finally picked up the victory via “The Stomp”, but you could tell that they had plenty of unfinished business in singles action…and they’d use plenty of callbacks to this match just weeks later in singles competition on Raw.

7. Money in the Bank vs. Elias For The IC Title

Elias was poised for stardom when he told John Cena that WWE stands for “Walk With Elias”, but some fans still weren’t sold on The Drifter’s ability to work at a high level in the ring. Many of his matches were simple or lethargic, but that was honestly a mild complaint in the face of his magnetic heel work.

At Money in the Bank against one of the best in the business, Elias showed his star potential as an in-ring performer. This was by far the most dynamic match of his career, and it truly seemed like Elias would be able to pull off a shocking upset against Rollins.

While an Intercontinental Championship match wasn’t meant to be, Elias showed that he has the ability to one day hold that championship, and Rollins proved, as he did in an “Open Challenge” match against Mojo Rawley, that he can help WWE create new stars in the ring.
